Linkoping

Despite having a population of over 100 000 in the city proper, Linkoping has managed to retain its small town feeling. The city centre is virtually void of tall buildings, chiefly due to the restrictions placed upon the city by the nearby military airfield. This gives Linköping a quaint atmosphere despite the presence of a modern university and several major high-tech enterprises.

In Gamla Linkoping (Old Linköping), the old-fashion atmosphere is even more evident since this section of the city is comprised of beautiful buildings once situated in the centre of Linköping. To preserve them for the future, they were moved to Gamla Linköping. Locals and visitors alike take pleasure in leisurely strolling along the cobble streets of Gamla Linköping while enjoying locally produced chocolate and candy from old-fashion paper cones.

Visitors in the mood for something a bit more modern can head for the IT-ceum, a computer and computing museum nestled among the IT companies in the Mjärdevi Science Park. The museum is free of charge and have signs in English and Swedish. In addition to focusing on the technical aspects of computing, IT-ceum also dwells upon the social impact of modern computer use.
