Norrkoping

Traditionally a centre for paper and textile industry, Norrköping was once known as “The Manchester er of Sweden” and infamous for its polluted air. Today, the old red brick factories nestled along the River Motala Ström have been converted into university buildings, museums and coffee shops and the river is clean enough for salmon fishing.

Norrköping is Sweden's 8th most populous city with roughly 125 000 residents. It is located on the eastern side of Sweden where the River Motala Ström empties into Bråviken, an inlet of the Baltic Sea. An archipelago suitable for activities such as kayaking and sailing is found roughly 30 miles east of Norrköping.

North-east of Norrköping in the mountainous Kolmården Forest, visitors flock to experience Sweden's largest zoo Kolmårdens Djurpark. The zoo facilities span from petting zoo to African safari park and the only dolphinarium in Scandinavia. Overnight visitors can stay in African-style camp tents near the safari park or check into the Wilderness Hotel (Vildmarkshotellet).
